Head Coach Grace Rehnquist is entering her fourth year at the helm of the Northfield Mount Hermon Girls’ Basketball Program. She came to NMH by way of Connecticut College where she was the first assistant and recruiting coordinator for two years with the Camels. In her tenure NMH, Rehnquist’s teams have won the league, the New England 8 three years in a row, and have received bids to the NEPSAC Class A Tournament for the past two years. Last season, NMH was one of four teams selected to participate in the Class AA Tournament.
Last season was a test of the squad’s resilience, as they ended the first semester with a 4-3 record, including a few losses they wish they could have gotten back. Entering second semester, the team recollected and reconnected before finishing the year on a 15-3 run. A major win for NMH came against the #1 seed in New England, and previously unbeaten, Worcester Academy. In the win, the team committed to the game play, and played together for an entire 32 minutes. It wasn’t the prettiest basketball, ttheir resolve was strong, and this helped carry NMH into a fourth seed in the NEPSAC Class AA Tournament.
Northfield Mount Hermon returns 3 starters from last years squad – they were all named Captain this fall:
Silke Milliman – Milliman will return as part of NMH’s front court this year. She will be expected to be a major contributor on the offensive end as she has led the team in scoring the past two seasons. She will also contribute greatly to the team’s defensive effort due to her uncanny shot blocking ability.
Grace Heeps – Heeps returns as the quarterback of the squad this year, after a great junior campaign. She can be expected to control the pace of the offense and lead the stat sheet in assists, but will also be called upon to assert herself offensively.
Bella Ceseretti – Ceseretti is a sharp shooter and is dynamic in stretching the defense. You can’t leave her open for a second. Ceseretti will also be the vocal leader of the team’s defense this year and will be called upon to cover some of the toughest guards in the league.
Celia Kirk – After a great summer on the AAU circuit, Celia Kirk returned to campus with a new sense of confidence. Look to see the sophomore contributing big minutes in the back court.
After last year’s season, the Northfield Mount Hermon Girls’ Basketball team had many team and individual accolades including three-peating as NE-8 Champions and finishing the season undefeated at home. Grace Heeps and Allie Lopes ‘18 were both named NE-8 All-Stars while Silke Milliman was named NE-8 Most Outstanding Player. Those three players were also named NEPSAC Class A All-Stars. Additionally, Heeps & Lopes were named All-New England Honorable Mention with Milliman being named to the First Team All-New England. Finally, Silke Milliman was named an ESPNW HoopGurlz Top 100 Selection for the Class of 2019 coming in ranked at #72.
Joining the team this year are Annabelle Larnard ’19 (Post-Grad & Boston University commit), Caroline O’Connor ’20, Ella Gazo ’21, Lucy Flynn ’21, Ashlin Spitzer ’21 (CO), and Abbie Grace ’22.
Coach Rehnquist’s expectations this year are no different as she expects the team to compete because of their emphasis on work ethic and holding themselves to high standards. She never tries to forecast their record or success – as Rehnquist notes, their league is the best of the best and every night NMH steps on the floor, they face a formidable opponent. NMH commits to the belief that every game matters and they need to treat each game the same. Consistency in their our approach is tantamount to the team’s overall success. The most important game is whichever one they are playing.
