NEGR - Northeast Girls Recruiting

Prep Profiles: Ethel Walker

Coach John Monagan is entering his 11th year at the helm of the Ethel Walker girls’ basketball programs. In his time at Ethel Walker, the team has accumulated a record of 120-93 including 3 trips to the Class C New England Tournaments.

Last season the team was hurt by an injury to their leading scorer from the previous year, but it allowed many of the younger players to gain experience and playing time. The team received great contributions from our freshmen and sophomores and fought their way to a respectable 12-9 record. Given their youth and the injuries they fought through, Coach Monagan and the team were very happy with their record.

Key Returning Players:

Mariah DunnDunn is a returning senior who is coming off of an injury and will look to regain her form from the 2016-17 season. She is a physical player who is difficult to defend as she can score inside-out.

Hannah IwaszkiewiczIwaszkiewicz is a junior who is athletic and quick. She helps the team by scoring from the outside and getting to the free throw line.

Jelly FrigoFrigo will take over the reigns as point guard this year. She plays with a good swagger and will look to distribute the ball. She can hit the open shot when given the opportunity.

Nora GriffithsGriffiths is a sophomore with great size and skill. She will rely more on her shooting than on her inside play, but if she can get to the free throw line more frequently, she will help the team in great ways offensively.

In Ethel Walker, all their games are big. They are hoping to take things one game at a time and not get ahead of themselves with hopes and expectations. With the capability of being very good, if they overlook anybody at any time, they can lose a game. Every game is crucial to their success. Coach Monagan and the team’s hope is to get back to the NEPSAC Tournament, which is possible if they play well as a team.

Head Coach John Monagan

“We lose only three players from a team that matured and grew together last year. We have the talent level to go further and achieve greater things than we did last year, but we must continue to play as a team and have fun together if we want to accomplish our goals. I can’t wait to get back to the court with this group.”

Ethel Walker is a private, college preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades 6-12 plus postgraduate located in Simsbury, CT.
